Frequently asked questions

Do I need any prior experience?
Not at all. Every event starts with a 15-minute field briefing covering planting technique, species identification, and site safety. Volunteers of all backgrounds plant together successfully every time.
Is there an age limit?
Community events are open to anyone aged 14 and over. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Our end-of-year Sky Meadows event is family-friendly and open to younger children with supervision.
How are corporate events different from community events?
Corporate partner days are reserved exclusively for registered partner teams. They include catered lunch, a dedicated site guide, a GPS-verified impact report for CSR documentation, and recognition in our annual partner report. Community events are open-access and more informal.
What species of trees do you plant?
We only plant native species sourced from certified regional nurseries. Depending on the site, this includes White Oak, Chestnut Oak, Tulip Poplar, Virginia Pine, Red Maple, Sweetgum, Serviceberry, and Sycamore. The species mix is determined by soil type, elevation, and ecological conditions at each site.
How do I know if my trees survived?
All corporate partners receive annual site monitoring reports with GPS-tagged survival data. Community volunteers can request a follow-up email update six months after the event. We aim to maintain a year-one survival rate above 90% at all sites.
Can I cancel or reschedule after registering?
Yes — just email hello@pinetreehunters.com at least 72 hours before the event to cancel or transfer your spot. For corporate bookings, cancellations within 14 days of the event may incur a partial fee to cover logistics already committed.
Are volunteer events tax-deductible?
Pine Tree Hunters is a registered 501(c)(3) organisation (EIN: 84-2741069). Monetary donations to our organisation are tax-deductible. Volunteer time itself is not deductible, but some corporate partners use their partnership fees for CSR reporting purposes — speak to your accountant about your specific situation.
What happens if the weather is bad?
We plant in most weather conditions — light rain is actually ideal for seedling establishment. Events are only cancelled in the case of extreme weather (high winds, lightning, or heavy snow). You'll be notified by email at least 12 hours before the event if a cancellation is necessary.
